Easy Homemade Chocolate Pie with Cocoa

Chocolate cake is a favorite dessert for many people around the world. You can make meringues or top them with whipped topping. Making homemade chocolate pie isn't difficult once you've made it a few times. Making pastry skin is very easy because the ingredients only consist of flour, water, and salt. The reason making cookies seem difficult is the fact that the amounts in the recipe are estimated. The exact amount of water and flour varies according to the humidity in the place. Here is the basic pastry crust used in most chocolate pies.

Step 1 - Making Homemade Cake


  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 to 4 tbsp. cold water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the butter and divide into portions that are roughly the size of a pea using a cookie cutter. If you don't have cookie cutters, you can use 2 butter spreaders. Mix water 1 tablespoon at a time. Mix each addition with a fork until combined. Use an extra tablespoon of water if the dough is too dry. The cookie dough will not roll well.

Use 2 layers of waxed paper to roll out the dough to about 12 inches in size. Transfer cake to a 9-inch pie pan. Poke holes all over the pastry using a fork. Bake the cake for ten to fifteen minutes or until golden. Let the cake cool before adding the chocolate pie filling.

If you want to make a chocolate pie filling from scratch, then you'll need to be patient as you'll need to knead the dough for about 15 to 20 minutes non-stop. Step 2 - Make the Chocolate Pie Stuffing


  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1 teaspoon. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 4 eggs, separate the yolk and white

How - Prepare the Chocolate Pie Stuffing

In a large saucepan, mix flour, sugar and cocoa. Add one cup of milk and turn the heat to medium-high. Keep stirring while adding the remaining milk. Beat the dough until it starts to bubble after about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and mix in 1 cup of batter with 4 egg yolks. Return the egg mixture to the utensil. Stir and cook over medium-high heat until the mixture boils again. Remove from heat and combine vanilla and butter. Mix vigorously until combined. Pour the chocolate filling into the baked cake.

You can choose a chocolate cake topping with whipped topping or meringue. You can easily mix your own meringues by mixing the remaining four egg whites with 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar. Stir the mixture on low speed for 35 seconds with a hand blender. Turn the speed higher and add sugar. Do not add sugar until sugar and cream of tartar until the dough starts to peak. Mix on high speed until stiff peaks form. Add the meringue to your chocolate pie and bake in a 350 degree F. oven for 15 minutes or until golden or brown. Serve with a whisk or ice cream.
